Full-scale war since 2022
The unit has participated in dozens of operations in southern and eastern Ukraine, successfully destroying columns of enemy equipment.
In May 2025, the "Ballista" unit used an FPV drone to shoot down a Russian Ka-52 "Alligator" helicopter. The "Ballista" operators set up an ambush right in the air. The strike was delivered during a "combat patrol" of the Russian helicopter over Ukrainian fields.
A specialized tactical strike drone group operates within the unit's structure, focusing directly on destroying high-priority targets deep in the rear and on the line of contact.
The tactical group detected and destroyed a Russian stationary radar station. The special forces operators are also credited with successfully striking a large concentration of enemy weapons and heavy military equipment at a distance of over 100 kilometers from the line of contact, destroying an army field ammunition depot directly on the coast of the Sea of Azov, conducting a series of precise UAV raids on logistics points, logistical supply warehouses, and directly on the location of an enemy unmanned systems battalion, as well as destroying a repair base and enemy personnel deployment points in Berdiansk, 130 km from the front line.
"Ballista" deploys a system of sensors and conducts autonomous aerial reconnaissance, which allows them to calculate the departure time of Russian supply columns and destroy equipment during the deployment stage.
In addition to kinetic destruction, the unit is involved in the informational support of SOF operations, including intercepting communication channels and conducting local information hacks to disorient enemy command posts.
Heroes and successors
"Ballista" works proactively, using technologies that are ahead of their time. These are special forces operators who create tools for next-generation warfare, where victory depends not only on the amount of ammunition but also on the speed of data processing.
