Do you want to serve in the SOF? How to prepare, even if you are not an athlete There is a stereotype: to get into the Special Operations Forces, you need to be almost a superman. We are debunking it: the decisive factor is not so much physical shape as internal motivation and self-improvement. Because physical training in the SOF – is when innate «ideal attributes» eventually yield to systematicity and self-discipline.

SOF standards. Test yourself

How the standards are taken at the SOF training center was explained by a physical training instructor with the call sign «Fizruk»: «There is nothing super difficult in the test, but it shows your level well. The complex consists of four sequential exercises:

  • push-ups;

  • squats;

  • bending knees to the chest in a push-up position;

  • 10-meter shuttle run.

The exercises are performed sequentially – 30 seconds for each. The result is determined by the total number of repetitions.

An adequate level – 60 repetitions. Even if you did not meet this standard, training at the SOF training center will strongly boost your level, – continues «Fizruk». – We do not focus on endurance, strength, or speed. Everything must be in a complex, because in the SOF they value versatility .

Prepare in a team

The SOF has a whole training program for recruits. For example, in Kyiv there is a veterans' running club, which provides an opportunity to train for free and under the guidance of professionals. Just this year, the club has prepared dozens of future operators.

«We know what to focus on and, based on this, we build the program, – says a representative of «SOF Recruiting» with the call sign «Shrek». – Our running club is headed by an Honored Coach of Ukraine, so everything happens on a professional basis. Different people come to us, but from my own experience I will say: there is no bad level of physical training – there is a lack of motivation ».

12 weeks to the goal

In case “I am overweight and haven't done sports for a long time”, the specialists of the SOF training center have developed a special program that will allow even a sedentary office worker to prepare for passing the standards in 12 weeks.

«I want to advise – do not try to work at maximum, – emphasizes the physical training instructor «Fizruk». – This is too much stress for the body and fatigue will come very quickly. Take 70% of your maximum. If the goal is 10 kilometers – cover 7 , but with maximum intensity. Do not forget about recovery either: quality nutrition and 7-8 hours of sleep – this is your must-have».
